Justice & Mercy Amazon (JMA)
The State of Amazonas in Brazil is a beautifully lush and diverse region known for its famous Amazon River. Many areas in this region are only accessible by boat or plane, yet the Lord is building His church in remote towns and villages along the river.
In 2022 TLI forged an exciting new partnership with a Brazilian-based ministry called Justice & Mercy Amazon (JMA). JMA was founded in 2013 to serve the needs of churches throughout the Amazon River Basin. Their ministries include: conferences and counseling for pastors and their wives, emergency food relief, medical assistance, child sponsorship and school resourcing, and various other mercy ministries.
As JMA has established relationships with churches and pastors in this region, they have witnessed the great need for biblical training. The jungle pastors recognize this need too. Their repeated request to JMA has been, "Please, can you provide training for us? We want to grow in our ability to study and preach the Word of God!"
It was this need, combined with God's providential working, that led four pastors in the town of Tefé to reach out to JMA, who in turn reached out to TLI, to explore partnering together to bring theological training to this strategic area of the Amazon.
In January 2023, TLI & JMA held the first training module in Tefé to over 25 spiritually-hungry pastors and committed church leaders. Many of these pastors not only shepherd their own churches but also evangelize and disciple people up and down the Amazon River. These outreach efforts combined with the number of relationships JMA has in this region means the potential exists to start more training locations in the coming years.
