Mission Critical - Translation for 2019
Under the guidance of TLI's Director of Curriculum Development, a team of Curriculum Developers writes and edits a course within TLI's nine-course curriculum. To field-test that course, one of the Curriculum Developers and one International Trainer trial the course with Immigrant Trainees in Minneapolis, primarily Hmong and Latino church leaders. The Curriculum Developer and a team of International Trainers and Short-Term Ministry partners then trial the course again in Luzon, Philippines, primarily among Filipino missionaries to other Filipino mountain tribes in Luzon. After gathering feedback from the various teachers and trainees, the whole Curriculum Team, led by the Curriculum Developer who trialed the course twice, edits and finalizes the course.
Once TLI's Director of Curriculum Development sends the finalized course material to Christian Lingua (CL), the translation company partnered with TLI, CL forms a translation team of native speakers in that specified language, each of whom are also trained linguists. They have given us a bulk rate of $2,200 per course per language for doing all of our curriculum translation. The CL team translates, edits, and formats the course material. TLI gets a specified "Reader" for that language, chosen by our indigenous National Partner in that training locale, to make detailed comments on the translation. The CL translation team and TLI's Reader converse, either in writing only or also by phone, about how the translation can better fit the more precise needs of the local users of the material. CL translation team edits and finalizes the material.
