Teaching: Biblical Theology

Follow along as teachers in the field offer their experiences as they share theological training with local church leaders.

Jun  21st,  2017Biblical Theology and Burning Hearts

IMG_1889"These are the words that I spoke to you while I was with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.  Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures."
Luke 24:44-45

We have now made it through the fourth day of training.  It has been an absolute joy being with these brothers, singing with them, and studying the Word of God together.  They are so filled with joy, especially at the mention of Jesus Christ.  Every connection that we make to him from the OT elicits hallelujahs and, at times, rounds of applause.  It's not because of great teaching but because of great truth.  They love Jesus!  They stand to read the Scriptures with so much charisma and boldness it's like they're preaching a sermon.  Every song they sing is powerfully sung from the diaphragm as if God himself were present to hear them.  And he is.  We are sensing his presence this week.  He is helping Greg and myself teach.  He is helping them understand and make connections.  He is stirring our hearts and knitting them together in love.  These are our brothers in Christ -- our family.  And we will be sad to leave them on Friday afternoon.

Our course of study is Biblical Theology -- how the old and new testaments connect together, being fulfilled in Christ.  We have traced the storyline of the Bible, beginning with Adam in the Garden and through to the coming of Christ.  God makes promises to his people (Abraham, Moses, David, etc.) and fulfills them in Jesus.  He blesses and commissions his people and in every stage of history they fail.  Mission begun.  Mission failed...failed...and failed again.  Until, the greater Adam, the new Moses and greater David comes.  Mission accomplished!

God is answering your prayers.  We are hearing amazing testimonies.  And they are sharing what they're learning and how thankful they are for this teaching.  Praise the Lord for the Sovereign Grace churches who are sacrificially giving so these brothers can sharpen their swords and go back into battle against the principalities and authorities in the heavenly places at work in their country.  This work is having an eternal effect for the kingdom of God.  What better investment could we make?

Please continue praying.  Some have been wrestling with sickness.  And we are all tired from the intense days of teaching and discussion.  What a joy and honor to teach these men; these apostles of Central Asia.  We are learning from their faith and passion for the Savior.  And we look forward to sharing more with you soon.

May Christ continue to be lifted up this week,

Director of Short-Term Ministries

Jun  19th,  2017Glorious Things of You Are Spoken O City of God

"Glorious things of you are spoken, O city of God.”

Psalm 87:3

This country has built a spectacular, sparkling city in the desert.  It stands as a stunning display of what man’s wealth, and workmanship, and will can accomplish.  Glorious things are spoken about it.

Yet, where did the men who crafted the towering citadels scattered throughout this country get the resources from which they gained their wealth, by which they purchased their architecture, and engineered their utopian playground?  It is in God we live and move and have our being.

So God is the founder of cities.  And God loves cities, including this city.  But God’s heart is mainly on the city He founded and purchased with the price of the blood of His own Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.  According to Psalm 87:5, the Most High Himself established her, and populated her with those whose names are registered and recorded in the Lamb’s book of life.  God brought His beloved Zion out of nothing.  And His glorious work in establishing the Church is so praiseworthy that it calls for “singers and dancers alike” (Psalm 87:7a) – a kind of divine “production number” that proclaims, “All my springs, all my life, my joy, my pleasure, my ecstasy is in God!” (Psalm 87:7b)

The city which these people, under God, have established is amazing.  But the city of God, the Church, is a display of God’s work, and wisdom, and wealth unsurpassed.  What the Spirit of Jesus is building here, as well as in a nearby closed country, through the dear men we are teaching this week, makes man’s ability to bring a glimmering city into being in a desert about as significant, by comparison, as shaping sand castles in the dirt.

May glorious things be said and sung and praised and danced of the city God has established -- His redeemed -- those born again by His Spirit in the cities, towns and villages where our dear brothers minister and live.
