Uganda (Kampala) August 2017

African Renewal University, Uganda, Uganda August 18 - September 2, 2017

The Holiday Term at Africa Renewal Christian College is a part of a 2-year Certificate Program for pastors, church leaders and lay-members of the church that desire to be equipped for ministry. The training attracts mature adults that are already serving in ministry and are unable to attend bible college full-time to due family, ministry and work commitments. This mature group of students provides a tremendous atmosphere for dialogue and debate as students learn how to apply God's word to their lives.

Follow along as teachers in the field offer their experiences as they share theological training with local church leaders.

Aug  22nd,  2017The Privilege of Teaching Committed Students

Aug 17, 2017

It was a joy to be welcomed back to Africa Renew University (AfRU) for my fourth time.  Training Leaders International (TLI) provides teaching staff for each AfRU Holiday Term.  These are two-week courses that provide Bible training for pastors and church leaders who cannot attend full semester classes.  Students earn a Certificate in Ministry by attending the Holiday Term classes offered three times a year.

Some students arrive early on the first day classes after traveling by bus for twenty four hours or more. The effort expended to attend AfRU is a testament to their desire to improve their knowledge of scripture and wisdom for practical application. We are humbled to teach such committed students! It also confirms the importance of TLI’s mission of training pastors and church leaders in places where pastoral training is lacking, and often non-existent.

I am teaching a course on “Spiritual Formation.”  Sixteen attend--pastors, church leaders, or ministers of music.  Nine of these were in my class in prior years; a number of my students from prior years are attending other courses.  It is a blessing to renew friendships with our Ugandan brothers and sisters in Christ!  It is also encouraging to see their spiritual growth as they complete classes while continuing to minister to their villages.

One of the highlights for me is the opportunity to preach in the village churches.  It was special to preach yesterday at King of Kings Ministries. I had established a friendship with their Pastor Julius on prior trips.  The people were warm and welcoming.  The worship service included spirited African worship singing and dancing by adults and children.  My message was from Psalm 31:1-5 and entitled “The Lord is my Refuge.”

I feel privileged to once again partner, through TLI, with a special team of gifted and experienced instructors, building friendships and sharing in the ministry of training faithful church leaders, who will be able to teach others also. Please pray for our teaching ministry over the next two weeks.
