Jul  28th,  2016The Hard Work of Teaching and Preaching

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

The past two days have been filled with hard work--the hard work of teaching, interpreting, and learning. Together, teachers and interpreters and students are laboring to understand 2 Timothy. Although progress has been slow at times, the students have been diligent in seeking to understand the text of Scripture in order to learn how to preach it well.

The students themselves have done the work of learning about the historical background, occasion, and theological themes of 2 Timothy. This will serve them well, as they employ the same skills in preparation for preaching from other books of the Bible.

Now, the students are preparing to preach their sermons, which will take up much of the class time on Thursday and Friday morning. And Thursday evening, we will gather to celebrate the completion of their studies and challenge them to continue on faithfully.2016-07-26_15.53.25

Thanks for your continued prayers.

Jul  25th,  2016A Strange Thing Happened on the Way to the Highlands

"And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas." Acts 16:6-8

This passage has been on our minds over the weekend. On Friday, we received word that our trip to the Highlands would need to be cancelled. As a result of natural disaster, political turmoil, and risk to the security of our partner, we altered the schedule and traveled instead to our site in India. We were planning to be here next week, but will now start our training tomorrow and return home without having the opportunity to see our brothers in the Highlands.

We take great comfort in God's sovereign wisdom, as we were able to change plans in time to be here. We also know that he is watching over our friends, who we had hoped to encourage in the Lord. Please be in prayer for the church in the Highlands, as they have faced many challenges in the last year. Their lives are filled with challenges and we feel cut off from them. We rest in the sufficiency of God's grace to meet their needs in these days.

Pray as well for our pastors here, who are traveling in the rainy season. We look forward to the start of 2 Timothy with them tomorrow.

For the team,
