Romania Winter 2015

Iasi, Romania January 17-26, 2015

TLI has started a partnership with the local evangelical Romanian churches in the second largest city of Romania, Iasi (with aprox half a million people). Even though this area has one of the largest number of Eastern Orthodox believers and churches, most of these people don't have a personal relationship with Christ and don't know the Gospel. Tradition rules over the knowledge of the Scriptures and the Gospel of grace is unknown. Our Evangelical brothers and sisters from Iasi (who are up to aprox 2000 people) face trials both from within (legalism, lack of knowing theology, bad leadership) and outside (spiritual warfare, traditions, rejection from the majority of the population). Hence, God opened a door for TLI to come alongside some of the leaders of these churches and encourage them to be faithful in their calling, training and equipping them in handling the Word of God in a Christ-centered way. Please pray for us and come with us to be blessed and be a blessing for the believers in Iasi, Romania!

Follow along as teachers in the field offer their experiences as they share theological training with local church leaders.

Jan  23rd,  2015Celebration

Tonight called for a celebration as we recognized the efforts of those who've labored over God's Word through the TLI curriculum over the past three years. Families of the participants gathered with us for the ceremony where students received some parting presents (books, of course) as well as certificates of completion or participation. To finish off the evening, we enjoyed more fellowship over some food and refreshments. In some regards, we're sad to leave these students and yet there is hope for future communication and possibly even more classes with them to come. We eagerly anticipate hearing of the joys and sorrows in each of their ministries as they are sent off with the challenge of putting these skills to work as instruments in God's hands.

Jan  21st,  2015Tenacity.

It has been a crazy week in Iasi.

We arrived Monday to find 4 pastors from Moldova who had been waiting all day to see us. They had traveled 4 hours to meet us (2 hours driving and 2 hours of hassles at the border) then waited 4 hours for us to arrive. All this to ask us to please come and bring training to their churches. Tenacity. We had a good discussion, and several of us will be traveling to Moldova tomorrow (Thursday) to meet them and to visit a meeting site where we might be able to hold trainings.

The 2 Timothy class we have been teaching this week has been the most challenging class I have been a part of with TLI. The process of breaking down each passage to its structural outline has been slow, tough, and stretching work. The class has been one large workshop with texts open and small groups digging in and discussing each passage and then discussing the results together. They are having to use all that they have worked on in the past 3 years. Not unlike a final test. Pray for us as we want to finish well.

Tomorrow some of us will go 1.5 hours across the border into Moldova to visit a possible teaching site, and Philemon and Matthew will go to the Capitol of Moldova to visit a Bible school there. Pray for safe travels and open eyes. We’ll look forward to updating you when we get back tomorrow.
