Missions 101

A Financial Update from TLI

Aug. 12, 2011By: Darren CarlsonAuthor Bio

We have never updated those who follow our blog and ministry as to the financial condition of TLI.  The ministry of TLI is growing and we are at a point where we cannot grow without a big boost financially.  By September 15th we are looking for $23,000.  Here are the needs:

Cover the Cost of Trips to Southeast Asia, Burundi and Uganda

For various reasons, we came short of what we needed for these trips.  We take Psalm 15:4 seriously - a righteous man swears to his own hurt and does not change.  We committed to these trips and followed through.  However, for a young organization, we can't come up short.

Addition of Employees

Adding six new staff is a wonderful blessing!  We need startup funds to provide them printed materials about TLI, banners (think of what you see at conferences), and other miscellaneous items.  These are all one-time expenses.

Starting the Pastor Support Program

We are starting a program to support pastors for a five-year period to receive training and in some situations planting a church where there is no church.  Setting this up is not inexpensive.  This includes pictures of the pastors we support, the ability to choose someone from our website, brochures to hand people about the program, and ability to manage your account on our website and a mechanism on our website to receive updates from the person you sponsor.  This will allow us to substantially lower the costs of trips and open up areas that are harder to access.

Sending Howard Foreman to Nigeria

Howard was invited to take part in a conference hosted by leaders from all over Africa.  The conference is run by African leaders with the purpose of figuring out how to bring training to more pastors.  Howard is going in the hope of forming partnerships all across the continent.

The Recruiting of Teachers

We need to travel to seminaries to speak to students and professors.  We cut down on costs by staying in homes instead of hotels and by getting rides with friends instead of renting cars.  Still, traveling costs money.

Misc Administrative Expenses

There is a long list of small items that add up.  These aren't exciting things to give to, but are necessary for any ministry.

To close, let me add three reasons why giving to TLI is a good investment:

1.  We are a strategic ministry, meeting the need to theological training in a unique way.  Ask anyone who has gone on a trip or has received a team and they will all tell you the trip was worthwhile.

2.  Our admin costs are low relative to other ministries.  We have no costs incurred from a building.  No mortgage.  No utilities.  No upkeep.  We all work from our laptops, which means your money goes to ministry.

3.  God has done it.  Read here about the history of TLI.

Please consider helping us.  We won’t post this update again.  If you can’t help us financially, please pray and consider passing the information along.
