The story of Joseph in Genesis has intrigued me since I first saw the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as an unbelieving middle schooler. Then as a young believer attempting my first read-through-the-Bible cover to cover, I remember being appalled by Joseph's severe trials and dumbfounded by his forgiving response to his brothers.
Recently the Lord led me back to the story of Joseph through the preaching of my husband's former seminary professor Dr. Arturo Azurdia III. Dr. Azurdia is Senior Minister of Word and Worship at Trinity Church and Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology and Director of Pastoral Mentoring at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.
For anyone out there who has encountered trying circumstances (and who hasn't?), this sermon entitled The Painful Process of a Leader-in-Training is an edifying, timely word.
